Preface to special column on renewable fuel synthesis by photocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis

چکیده
Plasmonic metal nanoparticles have emerged as important candidates for photocatalysis. Numerous studies shown that coupling of a plasmonic component (such Au) the light energy harvester with catalytically active Pd) to form hybrid or alloy structures could achieve enhanced catalytic performance. However, microscopic mechanism relative multicomponent photocatalysis is still elusive. Here, we find electron-deficient Pd sites (Pdδ+) on AuPd nanoparticle were formed under visible irradiation, which play decisive role in The in-situ Pdδ+ irradiation offers ideal platform reaction comparable thermal heating conditions (>100 °C). show excellent conversion and selectivity visible-light-driven Heck cross-coupling ambient conditions. combination experimental density functional theory results suggest photocatalytic proceeds via new radical-based single-electron transfer pathway alloy, ideally provided efficient activation reactant much lower barrier irradiation. present work sheds mechanistic understandings bimetallic

Roles of cocatalysts in photocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis.
Since the 1970s, splitting water using solar energy has been a focus of great attention as a possible means for converting solar energy to chemical energy in the form of clean and renewable hydrogen fuel. Approaches to solar water splitting include photocatalytic water splitting with homogeneous or heterogeneous photocatalysts, photoelectrochemical or photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) water splitting...
متن کاملPreface to the special section on piezotronics.
For wurtzite structures that have noncentral symmetry, such as ZnO, GaN and InN, a piezoelectric potential (piezopotential) is created in the crystal by applying a strain. Owing to the semiconducting and piezoelectric properties of the wurtzite family, the strain-created inner-crystal piezopotential can serve as a “gate voltage” that can effectively tune/control the charge transport across an i...

متن کاملPreface: Introduction to Special Issue
Demands for flexibility, greater variety of products, and advanced production processes complicate the logistics and planning of manufacturing systems; this also increases the number of alternatives that should be formalized in a model. The evaluation of all the possible alternatives of the planning problem is often considered an NP-hard combinatorial problem. Practical problems often contain n...

This issue of JMLR is devoted to the memory of Alexey Chervonenkis. Over the period of a dozen years between 1962 and 1973 he and Vladimir Vapnik created a new discipline of statistical learning theory—the foundation on which all our modern understanding of pattern recognition is based. Alexey was 28 years old when they made their most famous and original discovery, the uniform law of large num...
